DUROCK® cement board Next Gen

DUROCK® CEMENT BOARD: a better BACKERBOARD

The benefit:
Easier cutting.

The observation:
Using a carbide backerboard knife, one contractor began by making the traditional two scores. We suggested he try just one; he did and loved that we had cut his scoring work in half. Not only did each contractor mention how much easier scoring became, they also raved about how clean each cut was—with fewer jagged edges that they would have to nip off. Close-to-the-edge cuts and extremely intricate cuts were easier too. At one point, a contractor scored a perfect cut down the middle of a 2" x 2' piece, impressing everyone.

The verdict:
Fewer and more accurate scores equal less waste, less time and better results.

The benefit:
Improved Fastening.

The observation:
The contractors nailed down the floor with a compressed air gun and screwed in the wall with a drill. On both applications, they noted how the fastener seated much better. The dramatic improvement, however, was with the screwing. The contractors loved how the screw bit into the board and seated; they applied just a little pressure and never once did the screw hit something and go cockeyed. The contractors were also extremely impressed when screwing at an edge because there was no blowout at the factory cut and very little blowout at their cut.

The verdict:
Every step of the installation process is made easier with the panel.

The benefit:
Lightweight.

The observation:
It doesn't take long to notice the difference that a board weighing up to 25% less makes. When installing the boards on a wall, each contractor commented on how much easier—and faster—the job went.

The verdict:
Given the number of jokes that came up about how DUROCK® cement board Next Gen would help keep them young, it's obvious that the reduced weight will make contractors' jobs a whole lot easier.
